Houston Museum District Houston Museum District, The Houston Museum District is a district that consists of 19 museums as well as galleries, cultural centers, and community groups located in Houston, Texas. Houston Museum District is dedicated to promoting culture, art, science, and culture. It is currently comprised of 19 museums that record the attendance of more than 8.7 million people per year. Each museum offers no-cost times or even whole days. Eleven of them are free to visit.

History

In the last decade, the area was falling into disrepair. It was so bad that it needed the attention of the local, county, and state governments to make road repairs and improve the area’s appearance. Houston Museum District Houston Museum District began as an initiative of the community in 1977, led by Alexandra R. Marshall. His vision was to build an accessible pedestrian zone that included its own Museum of Fine Arts, located at an intersection between Bissonnet Street, and Montrose Boulevard, as its base.

Since its beginning, the many initiatives from Houston Museum District organizations have been an enormous success. Houston Museum District organizations have included community improvement initiatives such as tree planting, sidewalk design construction and expansion, and esplanade design. And beautification, as well as the creation of public transportation that connects to and from the district with police support and diverse cultural activities.
